The Lane No 1 in front of the Osho International Meditation Resort has finally been made open for all. A week ago, MiD DAY had reported that this lane had been blocked by the Osho ashram for locals and residents.

The eight-month-long silent protest by Koregaon Park Kruti Samiti demanding commuters and residents be allowed to use Lane No 1 and 2 bore fruit after the Bundgarden police asked policemen deployed there to open Lane No 1 on Saturday night.

The lane was blocked by the Osho ashram as a security measure. It was causing difficulties for patients and relatives coming to Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital, who had to take a longer route.u00a0

President of Koregaon Park Kruti Samiti Yogesh Pingale said: For last eight months we were demanding that the road should be open for locals. Police had already told Osho ashram about the security measures to be taken and gadgets to be installed at the resort. Blocking the road illegally, barring residents from using it was uncalled for. Finally, our demands were heard and the road was opened."

When MiD DAY contacted Senior Police Inspector Suhas Nadgauda of Bundgarden police station, he said: "We never closed the road. I had asked the policemen to frisk the passersby."

SI Nadgauda admitted that he visited the area and found that the road was blocked completely by erecting barricades. "The barricades were removed immediately after I pointed it out to them," he said.

Repeated attempts to call Ma Sadhana, official spokes person for Osho went
unanswered.
