Lending a helping hand to the elderly

A large stumbling block for senior citizens living in India is the lack of facilities and difficulty in finding services essential for daily living. To help senior citizens, the Association of Senior Living India (ASLI) was conceptualised by Mansoor Dalal, CMD of Oasis Senior Communes.

ASLI is a platform that offers dedicated care for senior citizens and includes doctors trained in geriatric care as well as paramedical staff.

The acronym ASLI means ‘real’ in Hindi, and was coined to echo the urgent need for real and committed players in this nascent industry of senior living. While ASLI will not provide any direct services it acts as an interface between senior citizens and service providers.

ASLI will offer various services for the elderly

“ASLI will strive to outline guidelines, frameworks, policies, and so on for assisted living. We plan to frame guidelines to advance excellence in senior living in India and champion the cause of quality of life for millions of Indian seniors who will benefit from our service,” said Dalal.

He adds that ASLI will offer different kinds of services. For example — if a senior citizen requires medical care or needs to buy something they can log on to the website and find relevant information about the product and services on the website free of cost.

The website will also show the nearby service providers whom the senior citizens can contact directly. Senior citizens can call the ASLI NGO for information.

He added that ASLI will work to create communication platforms to educate the senior population on housing, service, transparency, etc.

They will also set up training programmes for holistic care and arrange tie-ups with recognised institutes and universities offering programmes on human resources for care of the aged.
