What do a porn star, a militant and a bisexual have in common? Find out at Taboo Talks, a show featuring seven monologues
This Sunday, witness a new show that attempts to bring out stories of individuals who are often shunned from the society.
Shynee Narang performs the monologue of a tawaif (courtesan) in Taboo Talks
Presented by Dream Stage, a young theatre group in the city, Taboo Talks comprises seven monologues including that of a rapist, a Christian nun, a porn star, an aging tawaif (courtesan), a fringe militant, an unwed mother and a bisexual.
Baljeet Randhawa, the co-founder of Dream Stage, who has conceived and created the show, says, “I wanted to present one singular perspective, so, I designed the show featuring monologues. It is about the topics that make us uncomfortable. These address the present socio-cultural, religious and political scenarios.”
The monologues have been written by a set of writers including Rehan Sharuya, Ajinkya Raut, Apoorv Jaiswal, Bushra Khan, Sudeep Pagedar and Randhawa. While most of the monologues will be staged in English, the one of the tawaif will be presented in Hindi and Urdu. “These languages have a certain grace and the courtesans are all about grace and beauty,” elaborates Randhawa.
