The Dept is looking for houses as staff quarters; the deal will cost no less than Rs 1,222-crore
The Income Tax department has found developers willing to sell them 1,222 homes in Mumbai. According to officials in the I-T department, nine bidders have shown interest, and their technical bids are being evaluated, based on which they will finally decide who to give the order.
Wadhwa Developers is one name according to sources who has shown interest in selling the homes. When it goes through, the deal will cost no less than Rs 1,222 crore.

The Income Tax Department decided to buy 1,222 homes in Mumbai’s Bandra, Kurla, Borivli, Andheri, Ghatkopar, Chembur, Powai, Antop Hill, Goregaon, Malad, Mulund, Sion, Kandivli and some other areas.
They want to purchase these flats as staff quarters and had asked the prospective bidders to pay R2 lakh as earnest money deposit behind every flat. If minimum flat cost is calculated at Rs 1-crore the total cost will come to R1,222 crore.
Deputy Commissioner, I-T Dept, Vishal Makwane, looking into this particular project said, “We have opened the technical bids and have found nine bidders for the same. Only after evaluating all the bids can we be able to say anything further. I cannot disclose the name of any of the builders who have come forward and participated in the tenders, but the response is good.”
However, a senior official from the department said Wadhwa Builders is amongst the nine bidders. An email sent to Wadhwa Builders asking them how many flats they were selling got no response.
Makwane said, “After evaluating the technical bids we will soon come to a conclusion.” The bids were opened earlier this month.
The sizes of the homes that the department wants are 491 flats of 63 sqm, 399 of 54 sqm, while 332 for 40.80 sqm.
