Bombay Electric Supply and Tramways Company Limited (BEST) was a sole provider of electric supply, electric tram service and buses in the Mumbai city from 1905 to till 1947 when it was municipalised to form the Bombay Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking. This Company was originally established in England, as a subsidiary of the British Electric Traction Company, which had been trying since 1903 to bring electricity to Mumbai.
Tram
Double-deck tram services, started in 1920, became an intrinsic part of the city's landscape - till 1960s, when the service was withdrawn.
The last time a tram travelled on Mumbai streets was on March 31, 1964 at 10 ama tram travelled for the last time on Mumbai streets, between Bori Bunder (now CST) and Dadar (formerly Khodadad tram terminus, Dadar).
Trams have managed to survive in only one Indian city, Kolkata.
