The university categorised the colleges — as per approvals from it and the Bar Council of India — making choice difficult for applicants
On Saturday night, the much-awaited list of law colleges was finally out, but the problems of law college aspirants are far from over. The list left students dumbfounded, as the university segregated colleges under four colours — white, yellow, green and red — making the choice difficult.
“If we go by the list, most of the colleges that students prefer (government and unaided) are still waiting for permissions from the Bar Council of India. We don’t want to know what authorities are waiting for, we want that process to be faster, so we don’t waste this academic year,” said Sachin Pawar, President of the Student’s Law Council.

For colleges under white, it says ‘Affiliation received from the university and colleges by Bar Council of India – BCI.’ Under yellow, it says, ‘Colleges approved subject to BCI approval.’ Under green, it says, ‘Colleges that have sent Compliance Report to BCI’ and under red it says ‘Admission to the college/division only after government sanction/approval letter.
“We have to go by the directions of the High Court. All the guidelines come from the government’s side, we don’t make them,” said Chandrashekhar Oak, CET commissioner.
“Due to the late admissions many people withdrew. Students can have other personal reasons to quit as well,” Oak added.
In the 5 years category (Graduation + LLB) around 6,466 students from 10,000 have confirmed their admissions, and in the three years category (LLB) around 16,681 students from 22,000 have confirmed their admissions, informed Oak.
Students speak
But many law aspirants have not applied at all fearing more disappointment. “If we select a college under the green category, there are chances that it will not get permission on time,” said Reema Kadam.
Another student, Rishikesh Surve, who applied for the 3 year (LLB) course said, “The government law college is under green, and we don’t know for sure whether we will get admission in it. What if we apply there and the private colleges’ seats are filled? How are we going to prepare in such less time?”
Donna Gamit, who applied for the three-year (LLB) course, said “I have been waiting for admission in Government Law College.
Because it was taking too long, I applied in Maharaja Sayajirao University of Vadodara, just in case.
The exams are going to start but I really wanted the Government Law College. Now, I’m unable to access the link. It’s no better than the situation we were in before.”
