Cattle breeders sold around 90,000 goats of various breeds yesterday
and generated at least three times more than the actual price
for each animal they sold
Bannur goats, normally priced at for Rs 4,000 each, fetched Rs 15,000, while the Australian cross-breed sold for Rs 35,000.
It's fair everywhere
Around 90,000 goats of different breeds were sold across the city yesterday. Earlier, people only had the option of buying goats from Chamrajpet and Tannery Road grounds.
Now, they can purchase the livestock from anywhere, as the cattle fair has spread across the city, particularly in Muslim-dominated pockets. Mutton shops are also making the most of the opportunity as the festival has sent the demand for meat skyrocketing.
Cleaning Drive
The Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Department of BBMP has already issued an order asking people to use Corporation Slaughter Houses for slaughtering goats and to avoid butchering in open spaces.
The garbage vehicles will do the rounds of the locations earmarked for slaughter and will be on special drive from November 7 to 9.
"We have asked the local officials of Palike to go on inspections and ensure that no animal waste is thrown haphazardly," said Deputy Mayor S Harish.
As the city is prone to communal unrest during festivals, the police have already begunu00a0 lining up history-sheeters so there is no law and order problem.
Also, people possessing licensed guns have been asked to surrender the weapons for the next three days.
All the DCPs have been ordered to make a personnel visit to each Eidgah Maidan where prayer will be offered.

"To keep things under control, we have issued orders to all DCPs. We will dispatch 50 platoons comprising 25 from Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and Armed Reserve Force," said T Sunil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Law and Order.
