Etsy.com has competition from Mumbai. This one-stop online shop known for its cutesy, retro-inspired handmade accessories might have caught the fancy of millions across the globe but closer home, V Heart Art run by two 28 year-old graphic designers seems to be going the same way. Started three weeks ago after a round of brainstorming over coffee, Vihal Mehta and Shruti Chheda's brand separates itself from the rest with its delightful home d ufffdcor and accessories. "The idea behind V Heart Art was to make available to people what they visualise but are probably unable to create themselves. It is about letting your imagination go wild, your creativity flowing, and leaving it to V Heart Art to make it happen," informs Vihal.
On sale are owl cushions and hooks, cupcake bookends, puffed up stools with hearts and florals for your own boudoir (if you have one), jewellery stands, wall projects, frames to stationery made from paper, wood and metal. The Pop Art-meets-vintage vibe is obvious. The duo seems to have had a blast with their quirky experimentation. Look out for floral wallpapers used to finish a chest of drawers, retro upholstery on stools, woodcut faux chandeliers and colourful patchwork on owl-shaped cushions. Owls seem to have caught their fancy toou00a0-- you'll spot them sitting pretty around as hooks, bookends and cushion covers. Love and hearts are popular and make for entire collections.
While Vihal studied Fashion Design from the National Institute of Fashion Design, Mumbai and Mixed Media Painting from London's Central Saint Martins, Shruti completed Graphic Design and Animation from Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics, Mumbai. "In London, I realised I preferred art to fashion. I returned to Mumbai with a different mindset and deviated from retailing my own clothesline to art and painting,"
says Vihal.
