The producer duo, Virendra K Arora and Arjun N Kapoor, along with Mahesh Bhupathi, are gearing up to launch Sitaarey, a musical period drama.
Set in the 1970s, the film will be directed by Arif Ali. The director says, “When Arjun shared the concept of the film with me, I was struck by its simplicity. It bears a narrative that will flourish beautifully through our screenplay and songs. We believe the story deserves to be told through a musical and visual treat.”
Producer Mahesh Bhupathi adds, “Every nuance of this grand musical saga, from screenplay, songs to the star cast and shooting schedules are being meticulously planned to re-create the period this film belongs to.
It feels great to have Arif involved who has developed a simple, but unique idea in to a saga that is worth being told on the big screen.” Arif Ali, who directed Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014), is a writer and a director. He has previously had a long stint in the television space too. Sitaarey goes on floors early 2016.
