If you walk into the campus of Atharva College of Engineering in Malad, don’t be surprised if you see hundreds of kids running around with their noses buried in their phones instead of books. In a city where even the biggest of Pokéwalks have been cancelled due to lack of police permission, the college is holding a three-day-long Pokéwalk on its campus as the main attraction of its Techithon fest.

The Pokéwalk, which commenced yesterday and is expected to go on till Wednesday, will bring together students from different engineering colleges across the city.

The spacious Atharva College campus is ideal for this quest, as it features no less than four Poke stops in strategic locations.

Gamers can hunt for Pokemon and Pokemon-related props at these stops, and then head to battle the defending Pokemon trainer at the Poke gym that is located near the college gate.

Lure of the game
“We are expecting over 400 people from different colleges to participate in the Pokewalk over the next three days. Every 2-3 hours, we activate lure models across all four stops, so that gamers can catch a high frequency of Pokemon,” said Karan Sawant, a third-year Engineering student at Atharva, who is also the event coordinator for the walk. Champions are declared every couple of hours — Dhiraj Shetty of Atharva College was the first to be named a champ on the opening day.

Promotes interaction
“Because of this activity, a majority of students from different colleges in Mumbai are coming together here, in turn promoting interaction between students. The game is a natural success,” said college principal, Prof Shrikant Kallurkar.
