In a bizarre incident, an unknown assailant attacked a railway police inspector aboard a moving train and decamped with his loaded revolver yesterday.
The incident took place when the assailant boarded the ladies compartment of the CST-Asangaon after Kalyan.
When he was hauled up, he got into an argument with Kalyan Railway police ASI Narayan Gundali (56), which led to a scuffle.
The assailant snatched the officer's 9mm pistol and struck Gundali on the head, injuring him. He then disembarked from the moving train at Asangaon and fled the scene with the loaded service revolver.
Gundali has been admitted to Sridevi Hospital in Kalyan and the police are currently on the lookout for the assailant.
"Our primary concern is that the gun was loaded, but the search is currently on and we hope to nab the assailant soon," said an officer from Kalyan Railway police station.
