22-year-old Borivli resident's head was crushed under the wheels, killing him on the spot; cops have booked truck driver

Man tries to cross flyover, dumper crushes him

Satyam Mishra, a 22-year-old Borivli resident passed away on Tuesday night after getting crushed under the wheels of a dumper on the Western Express Highway (WEH). Mishra was crossing the road when the accident occurred.

The accident took place on the flyover opposite Carnival cinemas on Western Express Highway at 11.10 pm on Tuesday. Mishra died on the spot after getting crushed under the wheels of the dumper. The accident badly affected the traffic on WEH as well.


Cop speak
“The accident took place at around 11.10 pm, while Mishra was crossing the Saidham bridge at Western Express Highway. We have contacted his family in Jharkhand with the help of the identity proof we got from his pocket. His parents will reach here by tomorrow,” said sub inspector BN Patil, from Samta Nagar police station.

“The deceased was probably going towards his home via the highway and it is said that he was speaking on the phone when the accident took place,” said another police official from Samta Nagar police station, where the case has been registered.

“The accident was so brutal that his head was crushed and he died on the spot.

His body was sent to the Shatabdi Hospital for a post-mortem,” said Assistant Inspector Suryamohan N Bolamward.

The post-mortem report is awaited since Mishra’s body is yet to be moved to Bhagwati hospital.

The accused truck driver Sadashiv Pundalik (28) tried to escape from the accident spot but was caught by the police before he could do so.

A case has been registered against Pundalik under Sections 134 (A) (B) and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act and sections 279 (rash driving), 304(A) (death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

Previous accident
On March 1, 16-year-old Vidya Vishwakarma also lost her life in an accident on the same spot. She was on her way home to Borivali East from her SSC exam.
