According to Sushil Khopde, superintendent of police, Gaya district, the explosive went off shortly after the train, which was on its way to New Delhi, left Gaya station. Since none of the bogies toppled over, there were no casualties or any serious injuries in the incident. He said that a medical team with a rescue train was dispatched to the spot immediately.

Sanjay Saraogi, a passenger in one of the seven derailed bogies, said, "We heard a blast, but no harm has been caused to the passengers. The explosion isu00a0 suspected to be the handiwork ofu00a0 Maoists, who had called a 48-hour bandh in seven states starting yesterday.

The CPI (Maoist) called for the bandh in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and three districts of Maharashtra to protest against the 'Operation Green Hunt' launched against them.
