Jhansi businessman paid the amount in cash to admission agents to secure a seat for his son in MVJ Medical College
Jhansi businessman Pradeep Kumar Sharma was allegedly cheated of Rs 10 lakh by admission agents who promised to get his son Pulkit Shrotriya a seat at the MVJ Medical College and Research Centre.
Sharma was lured into the trap by a newspaper ad published in a Delhi paper on June 23 that promised seats in leading Bangalore medical colleges.

A few days later, Chakraborty allegedly introduced the family to Ramani, an admission agent and the president of the Venkateshwara Education Society (VES), who assured them that he would arrange a seat for Pulkit at the MVJ Medical College and Research Centre if they paid Rs 10 lakh in cash.u00a0
The couple paid up and Ramani handed them a provisional admission card to the college in return.
The Sharmas only learned of the fraud when they visited MVJ College and discovered that their son's name did not figure in the admission list. The college administration demanded a receipt for the Rs 10 lakh they claimed to have paid the Venkateshwara Education Society as proof of payment.
Sharma then rushed to Venkateshwara Education Society and met Ramani who refused to accept that he had been paid Rs 10 lakh.
Sharma contacted Chakraborty, who initially claimed that Pulkit's admission had been cancelled and that Sharma would get his money back. But after a few days Chakraborty switched off his mobile phone.
Sharma discovered that Chakraborty had vacated his flat and his whereabouts were not known to anyone.
The Frazer Town police station under whose jurisdiction the VES is located, are investigating the case.
"We have registered a complaint," said a senior official at the police station.
"But we are yet to make enquiries with the VES," he added.
