Meanwhile, the BMC public health department initiated an inquiry against Ruby Medical Centre, Vikhroli, where the illegal abortion of the minor was conducted.
“The health officials had sealed the nursing home’s sonography machine and operation theatre in 2011. The facility’s medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) registration was also revoked. A police complaint has been lodged by BMC so that the doctor can be booked under the MTP Act for running an unauthorised centre. Further, a case against the doctor under the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostics Technique (PCPNDT) Act is pending in the court of law,” said Dr Arun Bamne, executive health officer, BMC.
According to the police official, the doctor claimed that the victim was already bleeding and her water broke before they arrived at the nursing home. She has not been arrested as any action against the doctor can be taken only when the medical examination reports of the minor are out.
