Last time we heard of Virus in Hindi films, it was a reference to the straight-jacketed character played by Boman Irani in '3 Idiots'. Like him, 'Mickey Virus' too begins with the promise of being intelligent. At the outset, it seems like a refreshing new look at modern times where computers and Internet rule the game.

'Mickey Virus'
Mickey (Manish Paul) is blessed with a sharp mind. He is a master hacker but is too lazy to understand the enormity of his talent and prefers to not work for anyone and anything. He is just content hiding behind the identity of Kung Fu Chameli and doing some petty hacking jobs and earning money on the side. Interestingly, Mickey has a trusted group of funny-named friends -- Chutney (Pooja Gupta), Floppy (Raghav Kakkar) and Pancho (Vikesh Kumar).
On the other hand, ACP Siddhant (Manish Chaudhury) along with inspector Bhalla (Varun Badola) is on the lookout for someone like Mickey to solve a cyber crime, They make him an offer and just around that time, the protagonist falls in love with Kamayani (Elli Avram).
Soon after, Mickey finds himself caught in a web of deceit and crime and at one point, it looks like there is no way out for him.
Set in Delhi, this film begins to look interesting as its "hatke" storyline follows the life of Mickey Virus through the nooks and gullies of Delhi -- captured pretty well by cinematographer Anshuman Mahaley -- and his misadventures. While the first half is a tad slow, the second half picks up and keeps you engrossed even though some jokes are repeated again and again as if the dialogue writer himself couldn't get over the smartness of it all. But alas, it is the long winding climax which kills the flow and the spirit of the story.
What seemed like a smart script, with quick-witted dialogues, falters at many levels and even starts looking foolish and falling all over itself by the time it reaches the final point. As if a good script has been attacked by a nasty virus. By the end of it, you lose count of the 'good' guys and the 'bad' guys. And after a point, you simply stop caring.
However, I give it an extra half star because the film at least makes a sincere attempt at keeping up with the times even though it later falters big time.
Manish makes an earnest and confident debut on the big screen. Pooja as his mischievous buddy is pretty impressive. Elli stands out like a sore thumb with her poor acting skills. It is Badola who gets some of the best lines and also comes up with a pretty impressive performance. Nitesh Pandey who plays the all-knowing smart-assed professor could have been much better.
