Mufti meets Modi, finalises cabinet

New Delhi: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here Friday to finalise the cabinet of a PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir and said that both the parties were happy to serve the state.


"We should respect the mandate. I met the prime minister today (Friday) and this is an opportunity for both of us to work together," Mufti told reporters after the meeting.

"I and the prime minister had discussions on various issues regarding the state. However, all of them will be made public on the day of the swearing in-ceremony. There have been issues in Jammu and Kashmir and we have to build up a good government in the state," he said.

The meeting was held at the 7 Race Course, the official residence of the prime minister.

He also the prime minister emphasised on peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

"The prime minister has emphasized on peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He has a dream of making it an island of peace," Sayeed said.

He also told Modi that it was important to make Pakistan a part of the peace building process in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, he refused to divulge the portfolios the two parties are likely to keep.

The PDP has 28 members and an independent who got elected from Zanskar constituency of the Ladakh region has joined it.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 25 members while two legislators of the People's Conference headed by Sajad Gani Lone have already announced support to it.
