Mumbai: 100 litres of illicit liquor found in tubes in Aarey Milk Colony

A strange sighting was on offer inside Aarey Milk Colony late Tuesday night. Two tubes, filled with hooch, were found lying in the middle of an internal road. While locals confirmed the incident, the Dindoshi traffic police and Aarey police station were passing the buck on the presence of the illicit liquor.

Speaking to mid-day, an eyewitness said, “I was on my night walk, when I noticed two huge tubes filled with liquid lying on the middle of the road that goes towards Aarey Hospital from Aarey Dairy. They had an opening at one end, which was tied and it was clear that it might be containing illicit liquor. I was standing few meters away when I saw a police van coming toward it. It punctured the tubes that contained illicit liquor.”

Whose van is it anyway?
The Dindoshi division of the traffic police had put a nakabandi in place in the area. Later, a van belonging to the division was also doing continuous rounds in Aarey and was trying to find the vehicle from which the illicit liquor was thrown.

Senior PI of Aarey police, Vijay Oulkar denied knowledge of the incident (see box: Passing the buck) and when he was told that the constables from the mobile van of Aarey police station were the ones who punctured two of the tubes that contained liquor he said, “I will inquire about the incident with our officials.”

Sources from the Aarey Police station confirmed the same but said that it is the traffic police department that is investigating the matter. “It is the decision of the team from the Dindoshi traffic police, which is investigating into the incident as it was their team which was following the vehicle allegedly carrying the illicit liquor,” said a source from the Aarey police.
