Following the report on posh Andheri residents facing health concerns over faulty sewage, legislator Ameet Satam warns builder to handle mess in seven days

It took two days, but after mid-day reported about the health hazards hundreds of residents in the posh Andheri neighbourhood near Gilbert Hill, especially of Jesal and Rajveer Apartments, face due to a faulty sewage connection caused by the ongoing construction of a SRA building by Sahana Group, MLA Ameet Satam visited the spot on Monday afternoon. He even gave a seven-day ultimatum to the builder to repair the line. A day before that, officers from the BMC health department visited the two buildings to check on the residents who fell prey to dengue and malaria due to formation of breeding grounds in the stagnated water.

7-day ultimatum
Following mid-day's report about how a sewage line was broken into due to road digging without proper blue print verification, leading to accumulation of dirty water and causing serious health issues for the residents, MLA Satam, accompanied by a builder representative, spoke with the residents about the problems they are facing.
He then gave an ultimatum to the builder that unless handled in the next week; they would be instructed to stop construction.
Talking to Mid-day, Satam said, "The societies have two problems, one of faulty sewage, the other of storm water drainage problems. The sewage connectivity has been restored, that has helped control 50 per cent of the issue. In the next seven days, the storm water drainage connectivity will be restored, too." But, when mid-day reached out to Sudhakar Shetty, chairperson of Sahana Group, he didn't respond to the calls and messages.
BMC goes round
On Sunday, BMC officers visited all the residents who complained of health problems, including Jesal resident Rasedh Sheikh, whose two children aged 22 and 13 were diagnosed with malaria.
"They inspected all the flats. In my home, there were some dry clay plots; they asked me to remove it to prevent the formation of mosquito breeding ground. They also checked with all the residents who complained of health issues," said Richa Singh Gautam, another resident of Jetal apartment.
Prashant Gaikwad, ward officer, said, "Our officers had gone to inspect the area and we have already started the drainage connection work."
