The wife of the Mumbai BJP president was boarding an auto in Vakola when the two bikers snatched her bag; she was the third victim of the bikers in less than an hour
Less than a week after a 37-year-old woman fell from an auto and suffered multiple fractures after a biker snatched her bag in Kalyan, bike-borne thieves made off with the bag of MLA and BJP Mumbai president Ashish Shelar's wife in Vakola on December 30.
Vakola police officials said Pratima Shelar, who is an advocate, had hailed an auto at Western Express Highway when the incident happened, and that she was the third victim of the bike rider-pillion rider duo in less than an hour.

In the first incident, the bikers targeted Chandivli-based Shreerupasen Ghosh at the Western Express Highway in Vakola around 8.45 pm and decamped with booty worth Rs 57,000, including her mobile phone, which cost Rs 50,000.
Just 15 minutes later, the duo snatched the bag of Lalita Sharad Bande in the same area. She lost belongings worth about Rs 1,000, and Rs 20,000. Nearly 45 minutes later around 9.45 pm the duo targeted Pratima Shelar when she was heading towards Bandra.
The bikers snatched her bag when she was entering an auto rickshaw, and sped away. Shelar raised an alarm, but could not manage to note down the bike’s licence plate number because of the speed with which the bikers left the area.
She went to the Vakola police station to file an FIR and told the police that she couldn’t see the bikers’ faces as both of them were wearing helmets.

“We have registered FIRs in all three cases. We are trying to collect CCTV footage from the spot but have not found much so far. We suspect that the same two men the rider and pillion rider are behind all three snatchings,” said Senior Inspector Vilas Joshi from Vakola Police station.
“We asked all three complainants for descriptions of the accused and they could only say that they seemed to be less than 35 years old. They couldn’t see their faces as both men were wearing helmets and none of the complainants managed to note down the bike’s licence plate number. Our investigation is on,” Joshi added.
