Now, society members cannot even trust their watchmen for security, no matter how trustworthy they may seem. Four Nepali watchmen, who worked devotedly for three years to get into the good books of society members of Kesri Apartments in Charkop, Kandivli, waited patiently for the right time to pull off their break-in act.

Security guards Sher Singh, Ramesh Singh, Ram Singh and Maan Singh of this society in Charkop allegedly burgled a flat in the building on Tuesday afternoon and fled with gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh.

In an attempt to cover their tracks, they deleted the CCTV footage after committing the crime. Over the past three years, these watchmen worked dutifully and never got into any trouble with the residents.

Pre-planned break-in
According to police officials, the thieves entered resident Sunny D’souza’s flat with a duplicate key and stole gold jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh.

When D’souza returned home in the evening, he found the door ajar and his jewellery and some cash missing. He immediately informed the police about the incident after which the society’s four watchmen were nowhere to be found and their cell phones were switched off.

Residents speak
One of the society members said, “These watchmen have also deleted the CCTV footage installed for our safety. The four watchmen have gone missing since the break-in.” Another resident said, “These watchmen have been working in our society for the last three years and we have never had any problems with them.

But after this incident, they have broken our trust and we will not forgive them for this.” “After this incident we will not trust any Nepali watchmen. We will keep a security guard instead of the Nepali watchman,” added another resident.

Copspeak
API Mahesh Kulkarni from Charkop police station said, “After investigations, we suspect these watchmen to be involved in this case and we have registered a case of housebreaking.

We request all society members to hire security guards from trusted security agencies for better security. Security agencies have the complete details about the guards, which also makes it easy for us to nab them if they commit any crime.”
