Mumbai crime: Three Prabhadevi flats, next to Siddhivinayak Temple, burgled

It was an unproductive break-in at three flats in a posh Prabhadevi locality, next to Siddhivinayak Temple, on Friday morning. Finding hardly anything of value inside, the burglars made off with a few clothes and a few thousands in cash. However, residents are alarmed that this incident has occurred despite police patrolling the area.

The incident took place at Rai Chand Niwas building in flats owned by Amelia D'Costa, Jovita Lobo and Vishal Lubhey. D'Costa had left with her family members on Thursday evening for Goa, while Lobo and Lubhey were out visiting family.

On Friday morning, D'Costa's neighbour saw the house's lock broken. Sydney Silveira, D'Costa's brother, informed the police. Silveira said, "The burglars had gone through everything in the flat. Luckily, since valuables were kept in the bank, there was not much to steal." He added that it the burglars had targeted exactly those houses whose residents were away.

An officer from Dadar police station said, "We have registered an FIR. Currently, we have no lead in the case. It seems to be the work of a history-sheeter."
