Mumbai Diary: Monday Dossier

Which side of the court, Sania?

Salman Khan and Sania Mirza engage in some quick fix setting up on stage during the launch of the tennis ace’s book at a five-star near the airport last evening.

Ink chic, with no regrets
Mandy baby never ceases to amaze us with her hatke chic quotient.

Here’s a recent frame that Mandira Bedi posted, with a dash of urban philosophy attached to it: ‘Look back. But never in regret.’ We like. Pic courtesy/Mandira Bedi’s Twitter account

Heard this?
If you loved Mirchi and Mime, Powai’s fine dine that won as many accolades for employing speech and hearing impaired attendants as much as for its innovative contemporary Indian cuisine, there’s more reason to cheer.

This diarist has learnt that in the next three months the proprietors will be opening a watering hole called Madira and Mime, close to their current location. Plans to open a similar outpost in Bandra (W) or BKC are also on the cards. Spicy good times for Mumbai foodies, no?

Tham brothers’ next in Juhu
Their father created waves when he opened the eponymous fine-dine Henry Thams in Colaba and the brothers, Ryan and Keenan, have taken the legacy forward with two of Mumbai’s prized possessions — Juhu’s Trilogy, a favourite nightspot among the high-heeled and The Good Wife at BKC.

Now, while their latest offering, KOKO, an Asian gastropub offering Cantonese fare and inventive cocktails (read: Tom Yum Cup and Muztagh Pass) has just opened doors at Kamala Mills in Lower Parel, the brothers have already immersed themselves in setting up their next venture. We hear they’re launching a restaurant in Juhu, a level below Trilogy itself. “It will be an Asian space but again, very different from KOKO. It will open by year-end,” is all the reticent Ryan was willing to share with this diarist.

Ready for some new Jnana
It’s one of our favourite spaces for cultural nirvana in SoBo, and so the news that Jnanapravaha has undergone a revamp, came as good news.

The space inside the charming Queen’s Mansion off Dr DN Road, announced the news on social media, including that new programmes and plans are in the pipeline. We’re hooked already.

The other Hotel California
We’re pretty sure this one will make you chuckle on a blah Monday morning.

At least, we did, when we spotted this frame posted by Atul Kasbekar , along with an attempt to pen lyrics too. We’ll just let you be the judge on this desi version.

On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of Parathas
Risin up in the air...??
