Mumbaikars are tired of hearing the same false promises from civic officials and ward officers over dealing with potholes that have sprouted with the onset of the monsoon. Residents of Evershine Nagar, Malad have decided to take matters into their own hands and with some help from a social activist, a few residents from Ramchandra lane started filling up the potholes on Thursday night with paver blocks and crushed powder. The residents again came together yesterday at 11 PM to finish the rest of the work. They filled up a total of 22 potholes over two days.

“I was chasing the ward officer for over a month to help solve this issue but we never got any positive response from her,” said Indrajeet Chauhan, the local activist who contacted people to supply the necessary material required to help fill the potholesThe 300-metre road, which was reconstructed by BMC nearly two years back, is an important one as it is situated close to Infinity 2 mall and leads to Malad link road and thus sees a heavy rush of commuters at any given point of time.

Though Sangeeta Hasnale, the P North ward (Malad) officer did not answer mid-day’s calls despite repeated attempts, a BMC official on condition of anonymity said, “Our contractors came to the aid of the residents and they filled the potholes.”
