The man, a resident of Nagpada in South Mumbai, was allegedly defaming the woman over Facebook as well as WhatsApp; he was arrested and later let off on bail
After 22 years of having last seen each other, two 43-year-olds, a man and a woman, were happy to bump into each other and rekindle their friendship at a school reunion. However, the friendship quickly turned into a nightmare for the woman, Sandy Sen (name changed) after Fakhruddin Badri alias Fakri started making advances at the woman. She rejected them and in turn, he allegedly harassed her through messages and even a fake Facebook profile. His constant harassment temporarily landed him behind bars.

School reunion
An ill-fated school reunion 8 years ago, led to Sandy and Fakri meeting each other at a club in Girgaum. They took no time in recognising each other and soon, exchanged numbers. Their childhood friendship went a step forward after Sandy introduced Fakri to her husband one and a half year ago. Fakri would then make regular visits to Sandy’s house in Colaba as he became good friends with her husband and met him over evening drinks. A few months into this, Fakri called Sandy in a drunken stupor. During the call, he proposed to her. However, Sandy rejected the proposal and asked him not to keep in touch with her anymore. The following day, Fakri told her he was drunk and apologised for his behaviour. All was forgiven, until the day Fakri visited her home to have alcohol with her husband and told him after a few drinks that he had slept with Sandy.

Ties cut
Shocked with his statement, Sandy and her husband asked Fakri to leave the house and never keep in touch with them again. Fakri then started messaging Sandy on WhatsApp, after which she blocked him and told the police. “Fakri then used Facebook to contact the woman but when that did not work, he started uploading sexual content on the social networking site and also commented on things she posted, inviting others on Facebook to comment on it,” said a police official.

FIR registered
An FIR was registered on August 24 under Sections 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66 and 67 of the IT Act. Fakri, a resident of Nagpada was arrested on Tuesday and produced in the court, which sent him in judicial custody. However, he has been granted bail on surety of Rs 15,000.
