After reading about the shortage of funds required for the treatment and surgery of a stray that was brutalised with her toes cut off and an eye busted open more than a fortnight back in Dahisar, an anonymous helper came forward to generously donate the entire amount required for the surgery.

Masked saviour
Christina Lobo, who rescued the dog, had to pay Rs 20,000 for the bitch’s surgery out of her own pocket. “A woman called me the same day the article was published and said that she would like to help,” said Lobo. “In the evening, an errand boy came to meet me and gave me Rs 20,000 cash. When I asked her whether she wanted me to acknowledge this act on social media, she said she would prefer it to be kept anonymous.”

Speaking on the animal’s health, Lobo said it was imperative that the bitch was healthy enough to be administered local anaesthesia. “She won’t die for lack of surgery, but she might die if there is surgery. Her haemoglobin levels are still below par; also, she was bleeding for so many hours before we found her — all this impacts her health.”

“More than five people reached out to help after reading the article,” said Dr. Vikram Dave, who is currently treating the dog.

Medical opinion
“The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) as of now... we withdrew blood today and I will be receiving a copy of the report by tomorrow morning, confirming whether the bitch is well enough to undergo surgery. Externally, she looks healthy and has been eating regularly for the past week. But the wound on her back is not yet healed. We will also have to amputate her leg.”
