Mumbai: It took 40 cops to arrest 'bulldozer' chain snatcher

The Kapurbawdi police have arrested a notorious chain snatcher on Wednesday, who had been actively involved in the crime in Thane area. The accused, Mohammad Fiyaz Zafri, also known as Bulldozer, was nabbed from his residence at Ambivli.

The Thane Crime Branch had made a list of 20 notorious chain snatchers in the area recently, who had been troubling the locals. The police informed that Zafri was also a part of the list. Besides the preliminary probe, the accused hasn’t been interrogated yet.

However, he has confessed to the cops that he would travel alone in a bike and after snatching chains from around four to five women in Thane, he would escape back to Ambivli.

Police speak
Abhijit Mohite, inspector from Kapurbawdi police station said, “In the past cops have been attacked in Ambivli, as many criminals reside in that area. So, when we had to nab Zafri from his house in Ambivli, we took a force of around 40 policemen with us, which helped us in arresting the accused without any obstacles.”

The list
The police have prepared the list on the basis of the CCTV footages, informer’s tip off and the description narrated by the complainants. “The list was made by the higher officials. The CCTV cameras, installed alongside the road and at the signals, have helped a great deal in creating the list.

Our informers have also been notified about the activities of these chain snatchers,” added Mohite. The accused has been booked under sections 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.
