Justice has come to Poonam Sarkar at last. The police have arrested the criminals that dragged the Khar resident outside her home eight months ago to steal her belongings. The incident had left Poonam with a head injury and scarred her 13-year-old daughter, who saw her mother being brutally dragged right in front of her eyes.

According to the police, the arrested accused are drug addicts. They used to snatch mobile phones and sell them when they are out of money to buy drugs. The 43-year-old and her teenaged daughter Anoushka were mugged outside their home in January. The three thieves dragged Poonam Sarkar near the Hemkund Villa society. She fell after they dragged her and sustained serious injuries on her head. The miscreants took away her mobile phone and bag, which contained credit cards and Rs 10,000 cash and her mobile phone. Everything happened in front of Anoushka, who was too scared to even go to school after the incident.

Police sources said that accused did not sell the mobile phone as it was fitted with a tracker. They have recovered Poonam’s mobile phone — a Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

'Thank you, mid-day'
A jubilant Poonam told mid-day, “Thanks to mid-day for highlighting the incident and the cops for catching the accused. When the cops detained the accused, they sent me a picture to identify them. I recognised them and told them about it. Then, I went up to my daughter and told her that the cops have caught the thieves who had dragged me. She was extremely happy and gave me a hug.”

“The atmosphere in our house is as euphoric as it is during Durga Puja. Getting my phone back is not a big deal, but we are happy that the cops have arrested the accused who used to terrorise people like this. They should be punished in such a manner that they think twice before repeating acts like these,” she added.
