Bangalore’s Folk-Rock band Swarathma is all set to launch their second studio album, titled Topiwalleh, in the city. The band believes in standing up for causes that resonate with their music and this album supports the nationwide movement against corruption.

This album follows their critically acclaimed eponymous debut release in January 2009, which won the band the JD Rock Award for Best Band, Album and Song of the Year.

Swarathma is an award winning folk-rock band from Bangalore that comprises Vasu Dixit (vocals and rhythm guitar), Pavan Kumar KJ (percussion and vocals), Montry Manuel (drums), Varun (lead guitar and vocals), Sanjeev Nayak (violin and vocals) and Jishnu Dasgupta (bass guitar and vocals).

Lead vocalist Vasu Dixit says, “We are creatively involved in the process of album making. Our band comprises of people with the same wavelength who want to contribute to current social issues. We believe in doing our bit beyond mere entertainment through a music album. Therefore we have come up with songs such as Rishton Ka Raasta and Khul Ja Re which talk about being optimistic and bridging the gap in relationships.”

Dixit adds that the other songs on the album talk about issues such as child sexual abuse and the political scenario of the country. “Through this album, we want people to come out of their shell and talk about such issues openly.”

Partnering Swarathma in the launch of their new album is youth brand Bindass, an association that promises to broaden the reach and impact of the Folk-Rock band’s fresh new sound. Since their first album, Swarathma has quickly grown to become one of India’s premier live acts with performances all over the world including at festivals across the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Morocco.

The album Topiwalleh can also be downloaded online for free.
