They say situations inspire verse. In this case, doggerel has inspired a play. Amateur theatre person, Nandraam Anand has been frequenting Bombay Elektrik Projekt's monthly poetry slam and winning accolades for his moving Hindi poems. Little did the crowd full of about 30 regulars know that he was scouting for his play. "I have been moved by the way so many talented poets have been reading great verses. That's when I realised maybe I was ready to write a story inspired by the exchange between various artists that I observed at various slams," says Anand.

Called Muffins, the play is produced by theatre company Stage Kraft and stars actors Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Awanish Kotnaal and Kokil Airen, alongwith RJ Rohini Ramanathan, who hosts the monthly poetry slam and will be making her Hindi play debut with Muffins.

The story is a brief exchange between two people, where they find a weird truth about one another. What follows is a mesh-up of personal histories, strange quirks and anecdotes that go with them.

"The idea is to explore relationships that form between strangers, who become friends and maybe more or nothing at all. It is about basic Human interaction," Anand says.
