'My mother has found someone else...'

Updated on: 03 December,2013 11:46 PM IST  |
Dear Diana |

Dear Diana, My father passed away five years ago. My mother has been raising me with help from my uncles.

'My mother has found someone else...'

I am 16 and in junior college. My mother recently told me that she has found a man who loves her and she wants to marry him. I couldn’t bring myself to say anything at that point of time. I find it disgusting that I will have to share my life with a stranger. I believe it’s nothing less than an insult to my dad’s memory. What should I do?

Dear Yaani,
You are confused and frustrated with the fact that your mother is getting remarried. You don’t know this man, so you have your share of apprehensions, but your mother has her reasons to wed again. At least she is being honest with you and telling you her viewpoint. Remember she deserves happiness too. No one can erase your dad’s memory, but it is time to move on. She is looking for companionship and love. So, instead of being on a collision course, let her be. You never know you might get along with your new dad as well. It’s best to handle the situation in a mature way. Your mother would not do anything that would prove detrimental to you.u00a0
