A Nigerian national was allegedly killed by his fellow countryman and flat mate in a drunken brawl in Kalina at Santacruz East last Saturday. Cops arrested the accused, identified as Akpononu Nnagi (40), yesterday. The Vakola police suspect that both Nnagi and the deceased, Asuoha Prince (30), were drug peddlers, and were fighting over the distribution of kickbacks from their illegal trade, when the situation got out of hand and Nnagi stabbed Prince.
According to officials, on the night of August 27, the two were consuming alcohol at their rented apartment near Yogiraj Nagar, which they share with two other Nigerians. At the time of the incident, Prince's wife had gone to a church nearby. When she returned, she found that her husband had been stabbed with a knife, and called the police.
"When we reached the spot, Prince's wife told us that the deceased and the accused were drinking together, and that they were given to bickering regularly. The accused had fled the spot and had taken his passport with him," said PI Anil Pardesi from Vakola police station.
He added, "We also found 12 packets of ganja from their apartment. We suspect that the two were peddlers and might have fought over money." On Sunday, cops traced the accused in Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai. "We have arrested Nnagi," said Pardesi. Cops are waiting for a translator to take the statements of the foreigners and carry on the probe.
