Go to cafe oz only if you are in a mood to down some beers with friends, and have the entire evening to spare

Itu00a0is a given that you won't get the fine dining experience at a cafe. Especially not in one which is located in that youth hangout zone called Greater Kailash I M Block Market. But then again, would you pay to eat in a place that would not bother to even clean up the table after they have got you seated or care to come and take the orders even after repeated prodding? That is the foremost on my mind as I sit down to review Cafe Oz's outlet in GK I M Block Market.

The interiors are jazzy and have a youth appeal; fruit tart

The service is sloppy to say the least and the explanation for that is even more bizarre -- it's a Saturday night and a party is going on. Well then, in that case, just shut down the cafe for the rest given that you can't give your guests proper service.

Steadily slow
It took me repeated prodding to get the table cleaned (it still had remains of the last meal on it) and get the menu so that I could place an order. This, despite the fact that I was there for a review which they were aware of. I shudder to think what would happen to a general customer. The hookah was placed on the table after being seated for nearly half an hour.

By then, I was beginning to get a whiff of what was to come and quickly placed order for starters -- Bruschetta Cafe Oz style with wild mushrooms and ricotta and Aussie fish fingers. It was surprising to find out that the cafe is still going by its winter menu and even after most of summers are already over, the summer menu is still to be introduced. The bruschetta was stale and stinking and the fish finger was nothing different from the regular ones available, nothing that would suggest its connection with Down Under.

Long wait....
And by the time the starters came, I had already finished my drink which had again taken a long time coming. By this time, I had already lost my appetite or the interest in trying to soak in the ambience. A raucous crowd had gathered on both the floors on which the cafe is spread and a party was going on all around me. People kept coming and going, often bumping into each other -- complete strangers, long lost friends or colleagues at work. The place did seem quite popular as a hangout zone. However, this is a place to walk in with a bunch of friends, down a quick beer or two and head out for dinner.

And only when you have a lot of time to kill. But it was getting late and I was forced to take a look at the menu again and order main course. This time though (probably the service staff remembered that I didn't walk in as a regular guest and had come to review the place), the service improved slightly. My order, Grilled pomfret on sizzler arrived within the usual stipulated time and wasn't too bad either. So I was tempted to try the dessert -- Chocolate explosion -- souffle filled with dark chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Wondered why they call it that when it is simply known as brownie with dark chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream elsewhere. All in all, majorly disappointing.
