Investigation into the objectionable photos uploaded on Facebook has revealed an Osmanabad link to the incident. The pictures and posts were then circulated in Ahmednagar, before spreading to Pune.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar told reporters on Sunday that it is not possible to shut access to all the online links immediately.
“We have instructed concerned officials of the social networking site, which is based abroad, to remove the links, but till then citizens should refrain from opening them,” said Kumar “The image of a boy is being circulated on Whatsapp since Saturday stating that he is the one who had uploaded the objectionable pictures on Facebook.
However, no such youth has been arrested by police. The youth shown in that image has been identified as Nikhil Tikone from Kasba Peth and he was actually injured in one of the stone-pelting incidents,” added Kumar.
“Since Saturday night, 193 PMPML buses and 31 private buses have been vandalized by protestors. Stone pelting incidents have been reported in the jurisdictions of 24 police stations out of 33. The most incidents were reported in the jurisdiction of Bhosari police station followed by Hinjewadi, Pimpri, Sangvi, Yerawada, Hadapsar and Khadki police stations.
There have been 52 instances of stone pelting and police have registered 34 cases related to them. We have arrested 117 persons on charges of disturbing public peace and preventive action was taken against 101 persons,” said Kumar.
No let-up
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas on Sunday as well. Many shops in areas like Sinhagad road, Pimpri, Nigdi, Chinchwad, Hadapsar, Warje, Uttamnagar and Shivne were forcibly shut during the day. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway was also blocked by protestors around 1pm near Ravet.
Assistant Police Inspector Jagdale from Hinjewadi police station was injured in an attack by protestors after they were arrested by police on the NDA-Pashan road on Sunday morning. Jagdale has sustained serious injuries on his head and is undergoing treatment.
Hinjewadi police have arrested three youths identified as Ankush Mirge, Amol Mokashi and Sandeep Patil in this case.
Bandobast
Heavy police bandobast has been deployed across the city, including units of the State Reserve Police Force, Quick Response Team and Riot Control Police. All sensitive locations are under surveillance by cops, and youths coming on motorcycles to forcibly shut shops are being detained on the spot, said Kumar.
