WHAT's ON checks out a new multi-designer store at MG Road The wedding collection at Amara
Recession has hit people globally, but it has not deterred fashion houses from wooing customers across demographics. With Pune aspiring to match up to Mumbai, it's not surprising that fashion houses are setting up shop here. So, when we heard that Amara, a multi-designer store had opened its first outlet at MG Road, we could not resist dropping in to check out the stuff.
What's on display: This 3,500 square feet store showcases collections ranging from designer tunics, salwar-kameezes, Indian wedding collections, western formal and casual wear. You will also find accessories including leather clutches, sandals and shoes. You can browse through labels by established names in the fashion world such as Manish Arora, Neeta Bhargav, Puja Nayyar, Swapnil Shinde, Pankaj and Nidhi Ahuja, Sanjay Malhotra, Shyammal and Bhumika, Jaya Bhansari, Ekta Mehra and brands like Stofa, Sarah Wu, Kaliraha, Ekru, Geisha Designs and Taika.
What you can pick: Clutch bags and shoes are affordable. Swapnil Shinde's evening wear in silk and georgette is elegant and wearable. Also, check out Divyani and Divya's silk evening wear collection and Shyammal and Bhumika's Indian wedding collection, which includes salmar kameezes and churidars. Designer Manish Arora's Indian wear collection was nothing spectacular. The crushed, cotton stoles were over-priced and not worth the dough.
