Afghan soldiers fought off the Taliban in an attack named after the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.

The Afghan National Army paid tribute to their British trainers by naming the offensive 'Operation Princess Kate'.

The 29-year-old Duchess captivated the Afghans after they were shown pictures and footage of the Royal Wedding by British soldiers.

Captivated: The Afghan soldiers were so taken up by Kate's beauty
when they were shown pictures of her that they named the operation
Princess Kate to honour her.

Afghan National Army sergeant Abdul Wahid said, "We are grateful to the British troops for everything they are doing to help us become a capable army who can take on the insurgency. So we decided to name this important operation in honour of someone who is close to the hearts of the British people."

Operation Princess Kate was a success as the team of more than 400 Afghan army soldiers and police descended on a Taliban stronghold in Majar Bazaar in Nahr-e Saraj district.

Sergeant Wahid believes the name brought them luck, as they were able to set up a new checkpoint after forcing insurgents to flee.

He added, "Along with my fellow warriors, I was proud to play my part and to honour a member of the Royal Family in this way."

A doll for Pippa
Meanwhile, an American firm has come out with a doll that recreates Pippa Middleton's famous look from her sister's wedding.

Herobuilder, a US firm, has come with a doll costing ufffd31 (Rs 2,500) that shows Pippa in her famous bridesmaid's dress. However, the doll has been criticised for being a unflattering piece of work.
