A two-day old girl was kidnapped on Friday morning, by an unidentified woman from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital at Bhiwandi. The Shanti Nagar police have registered a case against the unknown woman. The kidnapping happened around 10 am, but the police found that the CCTVs installed at the hospital gate were not functioning from Thursday 2 pm to Friday 10.45 am. This has left no clues for them to trace her.

Shabana and Mohammed Hamid Shaikh, the parents of the baby, suspect the unidentified woman of kidnapping their child.

Mohammed Hamid Shaikh, (35), the complainant, owns a milk shop in Bhiwandi. Shaikh has two sons, a six-year-old and a three-year-old, and the baby is his first daughter. His wife Shabana (29), delivered the girl on Wednesday night and was going to be discharged on Friday morning. The kidnapping happened around 10 am. “I was resting on my bed, when the woman who was on the adjoining bed, told me that a nurse had called me to sign the discharge papers. I went to meet the nurse, and my daughter was sleeping on the bed. The nurse met me on my way and told me that she would not discharge me then. So I returned within 5 minutes and found my daughter missing. I was shocked to see the woman too missing. She had been admitted and was on the bed next to mine for more than two days,” said Shabana, crying as she spoke, as she had been very happy she had a girl after her boys and the family too, wished for a daughter.

Shabana said she started searching for her daughter and inquired with the staff and other patients, but no one said anything. “I will blame the woman for the kidnapping, as she has gone missing. I had seen her for more than two days. She claimed that her son was admitted and used to get food as other patients. When we asked the hospital staff about her, they claimed that they were unaware about her and don’t have any details. When I questioned the hospital authorities, they blamed me for being careless and leaving my daughter alone,” added Shabana.

Dr Kemi Patil, Civil Surgeon at the hospital, did not answer calls despite repeated attempts to speak to him.

Policespeak
R D Shinde, Senior Police Inspector, Shanti Nagar police station is investigating the case. “We have taken the statement of the baby’s mother who claims that the woman called herself Amina and said that her son was admitted in the ICU. She was on the adjoining bed for past two days. To get some clues when we checked the CCTV footage of the hospital, we found that it had not recorded anything since 2 pm on Thursday to 10.45 am on Friday. The monitoring system is in the main room and the watchmen switch off all the lights, due to which it was off. A team has been formed to trace the unknown woman,” said Shinde.
