The petition was filed on Tuesday afternoon, and addresses injuries and deaths to countless birds and humans from the manjha, read a statement.

"Manjha is a menace to public safety, posing a life-threatening risk to humans and birds alike," said PETA India Government Affairs Liaison Nikunj Sharma.

Sharma added: “PETA India is calling on authorities to make kite-flying enjoyable and safe for everyone by banning manjha from the activity."

Manjha is often coated with glass, metal, or other sharp objects, and is made of synthetic material such as nylon.
