Salve then took the body to Sassoon hospital and fled. But, doctors at the hospital informed the cops, after which Vishrantwadi police nabbed him from his residence when he was trying to flee. Manoj Patil, deputy commissioner of police (Zone-IV), Prakash Gharge, assistant commissioner of police, and police inspector Sudhakar Kate rushed to the spot immediately after Vishrantwadi police were informed about the incident by doctors at Sassoon.
“Shreyas had tried to destroy evidence by washing the road where Roopali’s blood had spilled. We have arrested Shreyas. Primary investigations reveal that Shreyas had taken around Rs 4 lakh from Roopali and had also kept her in the dark about his first marriage. Roopali was angry over this issue and used to frequently question Shreyas about it,” said Kate.
According to the police, Roopali joined the police force in 2006, while Shreyas had joined in 2008. They got married two years earlier at Alandi. It was Shreyas’s second marriage. His first wife resides at Dhanori, along with his son. Shreyas, his mother and Roopali reside in a rented house in Kalas.
“When Roopali got to know about Shreyas’s first marriage, she started questioning him. Shreyas also had a suspicion that Roopali was in an illicit relationship with someone. This led to frequent disputes between them. At around 4 am on Sunday morning, Shreyas and Roopali had a heated argument after which he beat her up.
After that Shreyas took her out of the house and assaulted her with sharp weapons on her head and face. Roopali was lying in a pool of blood, after which Shreyas himself took her to Sassoon hospital in an auto rickshaw,” added Kate. The doctors declared Roopali dead on arrival. Shreyas immediately left the hospital and was planning to flee from the city. The doctors suspected foul play and had immediately contacted the police.u00a0
