Srinagar: Dozens of angry youths clashed with security forces on Monday in south Kashmir's Batango village after the funeral of an Udhampur fire-bomb attack victim.


Despite restrictions and barricading of roads leading to Batango village - 52 km from Srinagar and in Anantnag district - by the security forces, scores of people gathered at the funeral of Zahid Rasool Bhat, who succumbed on Sunday to critical burn injuries received during a petrol bomb attack in Udhampur town of Jammu region on October 9.


Police and CRPF personnel used tear smoke shells and batons to bring the situation under control.


A senior police officer told IANS in Srinagar that security forces have been ordered to exercise maximum restraint while handling law and order in in the aftermath of the youth's death.

The Jammu-Srinagar national highway remained closed for the second day on Monday as the youths blocked it in Anantnag district.

Railway authorities suspended trains between south and north parts of the Kashmir Valley as obstructions were put on tracks by protesters in Anantnag district.
