Digvijaya slams PM for accusing Cong of taking money from Adani-Ambani

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Thursday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accusing the opposition party of taking money from "Adani and Ambani". Speaking at a rally in Telangana on Wednesday, PM Modi accused the Congress of having a "deal" with Ambani and Adani, and asked if the party has received "tempo loads of black money" from the two businessmen for its leader Rahul Gandhi to stop "abusing" them. "I want to ask from Telangana soil, let the 'shehzada' announce, how much has been lifted from Ambani-Adani. Has tempo loads of money reached the Congress? What deal has been arrived at that abusing Ambani-Adani has stopped overnight?" the PM said while addressing an election rally at Vemulawada in Telangana. Hitting back, Singh, addressing a rally in Ratlam, said, "Modiji said Ambani and Adani have sent money to Congress. Then were the Enforcement Directorate, CBI napping? We are ashamed of calling him our PM. He is not true even to Adani and Ambani." Modi promised to bring back black money stashed abroad but instead it was going overseas, Singh further alleged. Some 100 families own all the capital in India and the country's economy would collapse if they move out, the Congress Rajya Sabha MP further claimed. "The note ban rendered three crore people jobless. The Modi government has not waived loans of farmers in the last 10 years. Our (UPA) government had written off farm loans totalling Rs 72,000 crore," Singh said. Asserting that several leaders were on big posts even though they have not managed to win from their own booths, Singh said "we should take a resolve to ensure Congress wins at each booth". The Congress has fielded former Union minister Kantilal Bhuria against BJP's Anita Chauhan, wife of Madhya Pradesh Forest Minister Nagar Singh Chauhan, from Ratlam, where Lok Sabha polls will be held on May 13. Rahul Gandhi, Telangana CM Revanth travel in state transport bus in Hyderabad

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy travelled in a state-owned Road Transport Corporation bus and explained to the passengers about various schemes included in the party's Manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Rahul and CM Reddy boarded the RTC bus at Dil Sukh Nagar in the city. Rahul inquired about the free bus travel facility for women on the RTC buses. Rahul Gandhi explained to the passengers about Yuva Nyay, Kisan Nyay, Nari Nyay, and Shramik Nyay as included in the Congress Manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Meanwhile, in a public rally in Medak, Telangana, on Thursday, the Congress leader vowed to fill 30 lakh government jobs once the opposition coalition, INDIA bloc comes to power at the Centre. Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over unemployment woes in the country. He alleged that PM Modi "made crores of youth" unemployed. "Narendra Modi made crores of youth of the country unemployed. But the Congress party has come up with the scheme of 'first job is permanent'. In this scheme, we will give every educated youth the right to an apprenticeship of Rs 1 lakh. Then as soon as the INDIA government is formed on June 4, we will start the work of filling 30 lakh government jobs," Gandhi said while addressing the gathering in Medak. Gandhi alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party had claimed to "destroy the Constitution" while calling the ongoing general elections an "election between two ideologies." "Our Constitution protects the poor, tribal and backward people in the country. Before the Constitution was formed, the poor people in India did not have any rights. The book of the Constitution is the voice of your heart, which has been achieved by the Congress Party and crores of the people of India after decades-long struggle. But the people of BJP have clearly said that they will destroy the Constitution," he said. "This election is between two ideologies. On one side is the Congress Party and the INDIA alliance, which are engaged in saving the Constitution. On the other side are Narendra Modi, BJP and RSS, who are trying to destroy the Constitution. We will protect the Constitution. No power can destroy the Constitution of India," Gandhi added. The Congress leader further alleged that PM Modi has "worked for people like Adani" while promising to make "crores of people millionaires." "Narendra Modi has worked for people like Adani. Today, 22 people in the country have as much wealth as 70 crore people. Now the Congress party will make crores of people millionaires. One woman will be selected from every poor family in the country and the Congress Party will send Rs 1 lakh per year to her account," he said. Gandhi also vowed to conduct a caste census in the country after coming to power. "In India, the population of backward, tribal, Dalit, poor general and minority classes is around 90 per cent. But they do not get to participate in the country. Therefore, we have decided that a caste census will be conducted all over India. So that people of every section can know what is their population is and participation in the country," he said. Voting for all 17 seats in Telangana will take place on May 13 in the fourth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Rajnath Singh attacks Channi over his remarks on Poonch terror attack

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday slammed former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi over his 'election stunt' remarks on the terrorist attack on the Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy at Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. Channi said on Sunday that the Poonch militant attack, in which an IAF corporal was killed and four personnel were injured, was an "election stunt" to benefit the BJP. His remarks drew outrage from the BJP, which accused Congress of being disrespectful to soldiers and demanded an apology to the nation. Addressing an intellectual meet in Lucknow, Singh said," A former Chief Minister of Punjab called a terror attack on Air Force personnel an election stunt as it happened during the election. We have such people in our country." He further said that the BJP has cleaned up terrorism in the country. "There might still be a few terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Before the BJP government, there were terror attacks in most of the states," he said. Recalling the Mumbai attack in 2008, Singh said after the attack that the then Home Minister said that these kinds of small terror attacks keep happening. "In 2008, when I was the party president, the Mumbai attack happened and several people lost their lives. The then home minister said such small terror attacks keep happening," he said. "If someone tries to carry out any nefarious act, India can eliminate them on this side of the border, and if necessary, on the other side as well. We are no longer buying defence equipment from other countries. We have made ourselves self-reliant in the defence sector," Singh added. He further said that the BJP does politics for nation-building. "We want to develop a prosperous Bharat that is not only financially capable but could also lead in the fields of knowledge, spirituality and science," Singh said. He said that India, which ranked 11th in the GDP rankings, is currently the 5th largest economy in the world, adding that in the coming years, the country will become the third largest economy. "India's economy was in 11th position from 2004 till 2014. After this, PM Modi took over the charge and under his leadership, within eight years, India's economy jumped from 11th position to fifth position. And there is a prediction that India will be among the top three economies in the world if it continues at the same pace," the Defence Minister said. Assuring people that Indian borders are completely safe and secure, Singh said, "I request to opposition parties say whatever they want to say but stop questioning the valour and bravery of Indian soldiers. On the issue of national security and border security, all political parties, despite their political differences, should stand together, irrespective of who is in power." Arrest under GST Act should not be on mere suspicion: SC

The Supreme Court told the Centre on Thursday that any arrest under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act should not be on mere suspicion but has to be based on cogent material and adherence to proper procedure. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, M M Sundresh and Bela M Trivedi said the material upon which an arrest is made should be verifiable by a magistrate. "An arrest under the Act cannot be on mere suspicion but after proper inquiry and adherence to the procedure laid down under the law. It should be based on material that should be verifiable by the magistrate and certified by the commissioner," the bench told Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S V Raju, who appeared in the court on behalf of the Centre. The ASG replied, "Yes, any arrest made is based on proper material. We do not arrest anybody in the air." The court is hearing a batch of 281 petitions that have challenged various provisions of the Customs Act, the GST Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act amid allegations of misuse of penal provisions. Dealing with the Customs Act, Raju said the right to arrest is not taken away from a customs official and a special legislation overrides any other law in force. "For investigating and arrest, the only condition required is approval of the commissioner," he submitted. The bench said it will pronounce its verdict on the legal principle and deal with individual cases separately. "There are too many petitions and it will be impossible to include all the facts in a judgment. Therefore, we will deal with individual cases separately after pronouncing the verdict on the legal principles in question," the bench said. The hearing remained inconclusive and would continue on May 14, when Raju will make submissions on GST provisions. On Tuesday, the top court directed the Centre not to use "threat and coercion" during search-and-seizure operations against traders for the recovery of the GST and said they should be persuaded to clear the dues voluntarily. Examining various sections of the GST Act, the bench said there is no provision under the law that empowers authorities to exert force for the payment of outstanding dues. On May 2, the top court had asked the Centre to furnish details about the issuance of notices and arrests effected under the provisions of the GST Act, saying it may interpret the law and lay down appropriate guidelines to avoid harassment of citizens by depriving them of their liberty. It voiced concern over the ambiguity in section 69 of the GST Act that deals with the powers of arrest. The top court had said it would interpret the law to "strengthen" the concept of liberty, if need be, but not allow citizens to be harassed.
