New Delhi: East Delhi Municipal Corporation has been directed by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal here to pay Rs 2.22 lakh to a 45-year-old woman who sustained grievous injuries after being hit by a rashly driven truck owned by the civic body.

The tribunal, presided by Kiran Bansal, passed the order on the complaint of east Delhi resident Noorjahan who was hit by the truck in 2010. "Award is passed directing Respondent no 2 (municpal body) to pay a sum of Rs 2,22,400 to the petitioner," the tribunal said, while holding the civic body liable to pay the compensation.

It also noted that Noorjahan suffered from permanent disability of 20 per cent in right lower limb due to the accident. According to the complaint, on July 12, 2010, while she was crossing a road in Dilshad Garden area here, the truck hit her.

Due to the collision, she fell down on the road and sustained grievous injuries, the complaint said. She claimed before the court that she used to work as a maid and earned Rs 4,500 per month.
