The judicial custody of 16 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in November and early this month, was today extended two courts in the island nation

Rameswaram (TN): The judicial custody of 16 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in November and early this month, was today extended two courts in the island nation.


T Sasuraja, Rameswaram fishermen organisation president said six fishermen from this town, arrested on November 26 off Katchatheevu islet for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line, were produced in a court in Mannar, where magistrate Alex Grace extended their remand to Dec 30.


Ten fishermen of Karaikal, who were arrested on Dec 10 on a similar charge were produced before a court in Paruthiturai today and magistrate Subramani ordered extension of their remand till January 4, he said.
