A policeman, who charged money from new police recruits for caps, belts and whistles has been penalised by his department.

According to a police source, the accused constable reportedly told 30 rookie cops that he would provide them with the accessories, but charged each one of them Rs 300 for the merchandise.

After the new recruits realised that they had been cheated, they lodged an oral complaint with their superiors. Following a departmental enquiry, it was found that Kumawat had swindled his colleagues, and was handed down the punishment last week.
“The department announced that he will receive no salary increments for three years,” said a police officer, on condition of anonymity. u00a0
