Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation plans to develop about 40 gardens and indoor stadiums to help residents maintain 'good mental health'


Inu00a0 an attempt to preserve Navi Mumbai's open spaces amongst increasing concrete structures, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is making plans to develop 40 new gardens and renovate 17 existing ones in its jurisdiction by next year. Rs 20 crores has been allotted for the construction and renovation of gardens in the city.

Bhaskar Wankhede, Municipal Commissioner of NMMC said "We need to set up gardens in large numbers for residents' good mental and physical health.

As a part of augmentation of green space and setting up of entertainment facilities in Navi Mumbai we have also decided to focus on development of children's park in the city. There will be a butterfly garden, rose garden, botanical garden etc."

They also have plans to outsource security work at gardens and lakes to private companies after repeated incidents of theft and hooliganism by anti-social elements The NMCC has further plans to build four indoor stadiums for tennis, badminton etc towards which the corporation will spend Rs 2.5 cr.
