Samsung Galaxy J5

South Korean electronics giant Samsung unveiled two new 4G smartphones - Galaxy J5, a 5-inch smart phone for R11,999 and Galaxy J7, a 5.5-inch phablet R14,999 on Thursday. Both devices feature a 5MP front cameras with flash making them an attractive option among buyers. Let’s take a detailed look at both.

Galaxy J5:
The smallest of the lot, the Galaxy J5 runs on a 1.2GHz quad core processor from Qualcomm, and is powered by a 2,600mAh battery. The 5-inch device gets super Amoled HD display with a resolution of 720x1280.

As for memory, it features 1.5GB RAM, and 8GB built-in storage, which some might find too less, but it can be expanded up to 128GB. The Galaxy J5 is a dual SIM phone with support for 4G connectivity, and runs on Android 5.1 Lollypop OS. It also features Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, Glonass, Wi-Fi b/g/n and supports Wi-Fi Direct function. The device gets a 13MP autofocus rear camera with flash and 5MP front camera also with flash. It weighs 146g.

Galaxy J7:
The Galaxy J5 is more powerful than the J5, both in terms of battery as well as processor. It features 3,000mAh battery and runs on a 1.5GHz Exynos processor built by the South Korean company. But, considering the J7 gets a slightly larger screen, a 5.5-inch HD display, the power requirements would be higher, and hence there may not be much difference in battery performance. However, considering the display resolution for the J7 is same as the J5 at 720x1280, the pixel density is lower in the J7.

Like the J5, the J7 is also a dual SIM smart phone with support for 4G connectivity; however, the built-in storage is higher at 16GB and can be expanded up to 128GB. The RAM stands same at 1.5GB. As for connectivity, the J7 too features Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, Glonass and supports Wi-FI b/g/n bands. There’s no mention of Wi-Fi Direct in the spec sheet.

As far as looks go, both devices follow the same design trend set by other budget smart phones from Samsung; however, they present a very attractive option in this price range for those who prefer established brands. Both devices can be pre-ordered, starting today till July 23 on Flipkart.com.
