Pooja, a second-year dental student at Bharati Vidyapeeth, was the youngest daughter of her parents and dreamed of becoming a dental surgeon. "She was a very bright student and an extremely amiable person. Pooja missed her merit list by just 2 to 3 per cent. She left the house at 8.30 am, never to come back home again," said Sujata Birajdar, a relative.
Pooja was driving her vehicle when the incident took place. Her father Bhaurao Patil, who was on another vehicle nearby, was injured. Shweta Oswal (27), who was going to visit her doctor for a regular check-up, was hit by Mane at Vega Center near Swargate chowk.
"Shweta was driving the bike and was hit by the ST bus. She was injured and was admitted to Jahangir Hospital, where she died," said her brother-in-law Dinesh Oswal. Shweta's family donated her eyes at Jahangir Hospital. "Considering it as our social responsibility, we have decided to donate her eyes, which can be useful for needy," Dinesh said.
Ramlalit Shukla (23), who hailed from Baliya district of Uttar Pradesh, was also among the dead. "Shukla was a skilled glass-making labourer and was living in the basti located at Katraj-Kondhwa Road along with other labourers," said C M Patil, who is the contractor with whom Shukla was working.
Patil added that Shukla was travelling to Dhankawadi on his bike to Siddhi hospital, where he was working as glassmaker for an elevator. He died on the spot after he was hit by the ST bus, said Patil. Ankush Trikone (46) was on his courier dispatch job in the morning when he was hit by the ST bus and died. Six bodies were handed over to relatives by 3 pm, and one later in the evening. Only Patil's body was still to be handed over as her father was recuperating in hospital.
