Selena's sun shines

From acting to singing to social work, Selena Gomez has done it all. The budding star, who is just 18 years old, released her latest music album, When The Sun Goes Down, in June, which is ranking fourth on the US charts. Selena talks to CS about her music, social networking sites, and paparazzi:

Meaning in music
I always get attracted to good music. These days, I'm listening to Florence & The Machine, and I love Mumford & Sons' new record. In fact, Britain's Adele's record is insanely incredible. And I love Jessie J's new album too, I've been listening to it like crazy. All these different genres inspire me a lot. The single 'Who Says' from my latest album is very close to my heart. It questions youu00a0-- Who says you're not star material? Who says you're not presidential material? The writer of this song Priscilla Renea told me that when Barack Obama became the US president, a little boy was asked what it meant for him. He looked into the camera and said, 'That means I can be the president one day.' I can actually relate to it as I know so many people in my industry who want to make it big.

Caught in the net
I have a love-hate relationship with social networks. They're ferocious! I don't like blogging in general. But it's also amazing because I can connect with my fans, get to know their feedback instantly and let them to know about my life as well.

Media madnessu00a0
But yes, at times I do feel that need to be left alone. Being under constant media scrutiny isn't a cake walk. It is very stressful and demands a lot from youu00a0-- you have to be conscious about your appearance, and saying politically correct things always. However, you can't be nice and sweet all the time. I love my fans, but many-a-times the paparazzi uses them by saying this is what your fans want. Whatever I do is for my fans and they're amazing. It hurts me to avoid them.
