Introduced on January 23, 2014, the app was aimed at helping women in distress by sending alert messages to the numbers registered by them. A few women who downloaded the app recently said it is nothing more than a showpiece.
To verify the claims, this mid-day correspondent downloaded the app. However, the application either crashed or froze the device every time he tried to register the contact details of the people to whom the distress message would be sent.
When contacted, Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale the brainchild behind the app admitted that the app may not be functioning properly since it hasn’t been updated. Shewale assured he would contact the firm that developed the application and ensure that it gets updated at the earliest.
“I will ask the company to update the app. We’ll also publicise it and I will also write to the Chief Minister, requesting him to spread awareness about the app, so that women across the state can use it for their safety,” said Shewale.
