A six-year-old girl, Arundhati Anand, and her father Rahul, who were injured when Raut's car crashed into their Maruti Zen on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, were recuperating at a private hospital in Chinchwad. Arundhati's condition was critical, said neurosurgeon Dr Umesh Phalke, who is treating her.

Her father's mother-in-law Shakuntala Balkrishna was also injured in the accident. Dr Phalke said Arundhati was in a coma and on a ventilator since her admission to the hospital. "She has severe head injuries and her BP is critically low, which doesn't allow us to operate on her," said Dr Phalke.

Dr Phalke, who was also treating Raut, said Arundhati's head injuries were much more serious than the injuries suffered by Raut. "Unfortunately, she is not responding to treatment," said Dr Phalke. Arundhati's father Rahul has minor head injuries and a compound fracture in his leg and shoulder. He is likely to undergo surgery today. Shakuntala has a fracture in her right hand. Arundhati's escaped with minor injuries.
Raut was state to be out of danger.

"We have done another CT scan and found that the collection of blood on the surface of his brain has now reduced. We have permitted Raut's family to take him to Mumbai for the leader's comfort," said Dr Phalke.
